Now if any of you have been following my status updates on facebook recently you would have noticed a huge theme (also known as) Owl City Songs! I seriously don’t know how I fell into this “trend” but I have to say, the guys voice is intoxicating, and I should probably start an Owl Cityaholics Anonymous or something.. cause WOW this guy is growing in popularity very very quick. The thing is he deserves it, this is some of the best music I have heard in over 10 years! I have listened to all 19 of his songs at least 10 times EACH over the last 3 days, that’s just crazy for me. I seriously don’t know what it is with the music but it’s just great, between the awesome melodies and the perfect use of the synthesizer I just don’t know. Then you add all of this information together and also realize that he’s on tour with Relient K and a christian artist himself, it’s like a match made in heaven.
Anyways.. I guess this is just a fanboy blog if I don’t mention some of the songs I have, and what makes them so amazing:
Cave In : “Tie my handlebars to the stars so I stay on track” “I’ve had just about enough of quote diamonds in the rough” These are just snippets of this song.. and let me tell you, this guy is hard to figure out I’ll give him that much. His lyrics are either genius or incredibly retarded.. and I’m not 100% sure which one it is. This song is talking about that part in our lives were we realize “I really have to stop looking at the pie in the sky” and we start living our life for what we have and making the best out of it. (at least that’s what it means to me) This one is for anyone who is hung up on past relationships and he’s just saying “It’s time to move on, there is much better to come.”
Hello Seattle: “Hello Seattle, I am an old lighthouse, Throwing beams of bright lights, Red in the morning, blue in the evening sun, Taking heed for everyone” and “Take me above your light, Carry me through the night” This song is great at showing how much someone can mean to us in our own life, be it God or just that special someone. The whole song talks about Seattle, telling Seattle that no matter what there is a part of him that is always finding his way right back to Seattle, and then it ends with the person finally realizing how important the narrator is, and beckening for them to help them and carry them into hope. I love it
Now the next question is.. what should my third song be? It’s too bad NOBODY is going to actually read this.. otherwise I would ask people to comment about which song to.. oh I don’t know, talk about next..?
Fireflies (duh hehe): “You would not believe your eyes, If ten million fireflies Lit up the world as I fell asleep” Fireflies!! Or should I say everything that makes you comfortable in your present life? “Cause I get a thousand hugs, From ten thousand lightning bugs, As they try to teach me how to dance.” I can remember when I first left Huntsville it was such an intense moment, these were the people that have been my friends for so long! I have so many memories here, why am I leaving!?! I can even remember a tear or two were shed as well, but what happened? “To ten million fireflies, I’m weird ’cause I hate good-byes, I got misty eyes as they said farewell, But I’ll know where several are, If my dreams get real bizarre, ‘Cause I saved a few and I keep them in a jar.” That’s right, I moved on and I learned a new life, but that doesn’t mean I enjoyed the goodbye! How do we make it when we leave our lives behind? How do we work again after we have lost someone we love, or when our lives drastically change? I think it’s amazing because somehow we find a way to remember the past, and if things get really bad we just look inside our jar, where we stored a few of our 10 Million fireflies!
